November

Heute haben wir das letzte Training im November bestritten. Sind eine schöne Runde von 60 km gefahren. Es war auch nicht so kalt, nur -15 Grad. Der November hat uns mit dem Wetter sehr verwöhnt. Fast die ganze Zeit nur strahlender Sonnenschein. Allerdings bringt das auch klirrende Kälte mit sich und unsere Trainings waren meisten bei -25 Grad.
Von Donnerstag bis heute hatten wir Besuch von Ann-Kristin und Reidar Stenmark aus Bodö. Sie haben ihre Hunde hier trainiert und haben in unserer kleinen Gästehütte gewohnt. Und pünktlich zu deren Ankunft wurden auch die Temperaturen erträglicher. Bin ich noch am Donnerstag morgen bei -30 Grad gefahren, hatten wir am Abend nur noch angenehme -15 Grad.

Today we did the last training in November. Did a nice round of 60 km. It was not that cold, only -15 degrees. The November pampers us with the weather. Sunshine nearly all the time. However it brings bitter cold with it and we trainied mostly at -25 degrees.
From thursday to now we had Ann-Kristin and Reidar Stenmark from Bodö here for a visit. They trained their dogs here and were living in our small guestcabin. And just in time with their arriving it became a bit warmer. I drove at thursday with -30 in the morning, in the evening it was friendly -15 degrees.

Vi har en liten tik (16 kg) till salu. Hon ska hamna i en liten kennel eftersom hon är jätte blygt. Funkar bra som ledarhund, född 19.9.2009. Jeff King avel (Shasta-Rumba). Finns där nån som vill investera mycket tid i den lill hunden?

Heute hatte es -30 Grad. Da wollte ich nicht unbedingt mit 2 Teams unterwegs sein, sondern habe mir 14 Hunde eingespannt und 5 mussten zu Hause bleiben. Da wir auch die Long-Distance (Jeff King) Geschirre bekommen haben war es eine relativ relaxte Angelegenheit. Der Vorteil von so kalten Temperaturen ist das fantastische Wetter. Die Farben sind einfach gigantisch. Leider sieht man es auf den Bildern immer nicht so gut.

Today we had -30 degrees. Because of that I was not so happy to be out with 2 teams. So I hook up 14 dogs and 5 dogs had to stay at home. And since we got the long-distance (Jeff King) harnesses it was relatively relaxed out there. The benfit of that cold temperatures is the fantastic weather. The colours are incredible. Unfortunately you can´t see it that well at the pictures.

Welcome to hell...

Habe gerade einen Anruf von Jörg bekommen. Da es so s..kalt ist hat er sich gedacht nicht mit zwei Teams zu fahren sondern 3 Hunde stehen zu lassen und dann mit 16 Hunden am Schlitten zu fahren. Nachdem er die ersten 200 Meter bis zum See geschafft hat ging ihm wohl nur durch den Kopf das er heute mit diesem Team nicht lebend zurück kommen wird...Dann hat er auch noch die beiden kleinen Ladies Jaja und Sean in Lead. Die beiden wiegen nur 16-17 kg, aber rocken den Schlitten mit einem Speed wo sich die grossen Jungs gewaltig anstrengen müssen um mithalten zu können. Bei der einen Abzweigung die wir haben, haben die Ladies auch bestimmt das Jörg links und nicht recht herum fahren will. Also alles wie gehabt, die Hunde sagen wo´s lang geht...Jörg sagt er sei Schweiss gebadet und die Füsse glühen schon vom Bremsen. Willkommen in der Hölle!!!

Right now I received a phonecall from Jörg. Since it is so damn cold he thought that it would be better not to be out with two teams. So he left 3 dogs at home and hook up 16 dogs in front of the sled. After he done the first 200 meters to the lake he was really sure that he will not survive this trip today...Especially after he has the two small ladies Jaja and Sean in lead. Both have only 16-17 kg but they are rocking the sled with a speed that the bigger guys have to hury if they want to hang on. At the only diversion we have at the trail the girls decide that Jörg will drive to the left and not to the right (like he planned). So it´s all like usual, the dogs decide where the journey will go to...Jörg says that he is bathed in sweat and the feeds glow from braking. Welcome to hell!!!

Trailbreaker

Nachdem es jetzt seit zwei Wochen richtig kalt war, sind auch alle Flüsse und Seen auf unserer langen Trainingsstrecke dick zu gefroren. Jörg ist darum heute mit seinem Kumpel Tobbe losgefahren und sie haben angefangen die 80 km zur Hütte aufzumachen. Es hat auch alles gut funktioniert, nur die 15 km auf und über das Fjell sind noch nicht fertig. Dafür brauchen wir noch 10 cm Schnee. Die sollen aber laut Wetterbericht in einer Woche kommen...

After it was very cold the last two weeks, all the rivers and lakes at our long trainingsround are finally covered with thick ice. Because of that Jörg and his buddy Tobbe went out today for breaking the about 80 km trail to the cabin. It was all working very well, only the 15 km at and over the mountain are not ready yet. For that we need 10 cm more snow. The weatherforecast promise snow the next week...

war es noch schöner mit dem Schlitten. Aber auch richtig kalt, -25 Grad.

Am Mittwoch und Donnerstag haben wir jede Menge reinsten Pulverschnee bekommen. Jetzt ist es möglich auch grosse Teams zu fahren. Am Wochenende trainieren wir aber immer mit zwei Teams damit jeder von uns etwas zum fahren hat :)

Wednesday and thursday we got a lot of pure powder snow. Now it´s possible to train even big teams. But during the weekend we always train two teams so that we both have one own team to hook up :)

Rock´N Roll

Heute war es endlich soweit - die Schlitten wurden rausgeholt :))) Es war perfektes Timing, Jörg war gestern mit dem Schneemobil raus und heute Nacht konnte alles bei -16 Grad gut durchfrieren. Perfekte Bedingungen also heute und so sind wir bei -15 Grad losgefahren. Da ja noch nicht übermässig viel Schnee liegt war es wie immer am Anfang der Saison Rock`N Roll und es hiess sich gut am Schlitten fest zu halten. Jörg hatte 10 und ich 9 Hunde am Schlitten. So musste niemand zu Hause bleiben und alle waren beim ersten Ausflug mit dabei. Es hat uns allen riesig Spass gemacht!

Today it finally happened - the sleds were taken out :))) It was perfect timing, Jörg was out with the snowmobile yesterday and this night everything could freeze by -16 degrees. Perfect conditions today, so we went out with the sleds by -15 degrees. Since we have not the most snow it was like usual in the beginning of the season Rock`N Roll and we had to hang on at the sleds. Jörg hooked up 10 and I hooked up 9 dogs. So nobody was left behind and everybody was with us at the first journey. We all had really a lot of fun!

Endlich richtig Winter / Finally real winter

Nachdem wir uns lange nicht gemeldet haben wird es jetzt wieder an der Zeit. Aber es gab auch nichts zu berichten. Es schneite, es taute, es wurde kalt und wieder warm. Die Hunde hatten ständig Schnee unter den Pfoten, aber alles noch am ATV. Heute hatten wir zum ersten Mal das Gefühl von richtigem Winter. Es war kalt in den letzten Nächten - und auch endlich mal tagsüber. Und der Schnee kam jetzt auch in ausreichenden Mengen. Heute hat Jörg dann die Walze hinter das Schneemobil gehängt und endlich unsere 40 km "Hausstrecke" aufgemacht. Morgen geht´s dann in echt und wirklich auf den Schlitten, die Fotos folgen morgen abend...sofern es die Kamera überlebt und ich nicht wie ein Hundespielzeug hinter dem Schlitten her geschleift werde ;))

After we didn´t report for a long time, it´s showtime again now. But there was nothing to report. It was snowing, it was melting, it was cold and warm again. The dogs had all the time snow under their paws, but all hooked-up in front of the ATV. Today we had for the first time the feeling of real winter. It was cold in the last nights - and finally during the day, too. And it was also snowing a lot now. Today put Jörg the drum with the snowmobile and opened our 40 km "housetrail". Tomorrow we go really and finally out with the sled, the pictures will follow tomorrow in the evening...if the camera will survive and I´m not been hauled after the sled like a dogtoy ;))
